NewishI met my mother for the first time at her funeral. I was seventeen, blue all over and tumultuous as the ocean itself. I had had no prior knowledge of voids, and my mother's eternal home seemed toothed and humid and wormy, an ominous mouth.

Her coffin stood ringed by plastic chairs, each occupied by an opaque shadow. The figures themselves sat like upright fetuses, circumventing their cores. I sat among them, different because she was always foreign to me. Different because she had exhausted herself for the sake of my creation.

The pastor talked about my mother's relationship with God, which I did not know about. His voice reminded me of theNewish by ~humatinee

Of abuse and neglect.
The songs of the innocent,
That were wrongly accused
Are now forced to sing in their hearts.

There is no escape,
For once you enter the line,
The only way you can leave is a trade for your life.
It would be considered a miracle to escape with your soul,

Luna buried her head in her front legs. She tried to pull herself together, but could not stop crying and whimpering from the fear and sadness that her nightmare had left in her.

Regardless, she tried to reassure herself with weak encouragement. "Do not fall apart with this... It... It ist not anything that We cannot handle... It wast just a dream... A nightmare...”

She looked down as she pushed herself up. “It felt like a... a very vivid dream..." She looked up at the her reflection in the window and shivered. "A real dream..."

Luna smiled a little after she raised the moon on the sky completely. She watched as the jobs of the citizens were just about wrapped up. Most ponies bid themselves goodnight, satisfied with their deeds for the day.

She then heard some of the nocturnal creatures awake and wander around the Everfree Forest, though she made sure that they would not threaten the ponies that now slept for the night. ClarityA whole line of myriad thoughts pass through my mind, a never ending cycle, synonymous to the sunrise and sunset. My spirit is not at rest as multiple feelings and desires go unfulfilled. I am stable and continuous, only growing but never changing as time evolves and pushes forward, endless. Externally I'm silent but internally my mind is screaming, never at rest, wandering around outside. Energies continue to circulate in me over and over again, not dissipating, but then again, energy doesn’t dissipate, it only transfers. Clarity. I yearn for clarity. Film Star Focus: Wreck-It RalphOr, why I think Disney's Wreck-It Ralph deserved its Oscar nomination. Let it be known that I have not yet seen the other nominees (including the winner, Pixar's Brave), but I still think what this film was able to accomplish was more than deserving of its nomination, if not the win. Wreck-It Ralph might seem like a blatant cash-in, or a movie that would only appeal to the gaming demographic (and even then, only the younger one), but I'm here to put that theory to rest. The setting and slew of cameos might draw in the gaming community, but the characters and their journeys are what will bring people back for their 2nd, 3rd, and 50th viewings.
And so this brings me to the first of my latest line of features, the Film Star Focus. I may not be well versed in cinematography or film history/techniques, but I can at the very least spot a great character story when I see one. It was two in the morning--the hardest time to stay awake. He looked at the cup of coffee on the desk, but shook his head; he couldn't stomach another drop of the stuff.

Not that he'd need it. He was guarding a research lab that Riesner Industries had deliberately put out in the countryside, away from the crime centers of the big cities. Some of the other medical research labs had been hit over the past year by the animal rights crowd, but they'd never hit this place. It would take them a day's drive just to get here.

OC Exercise: The Best Cure for Writers Block'Ello, Kitsune here. As many of you know, I'm currently working on a novel that is taking over my life. Recently, I've been having trouble keeping the personalities of my characters (who have changed a lot over the near eight years that I've been working on my novel) completely straight. I know my main character well enough, since the story follows her life closely, but sometimes I feel like I don't know everyone else in my world enough. 


I'm sure you've all seen the character profiles before. (Name, age, height, physical description, likes, dislikes, etc.) I have filled out more of those than I care to admit, but they very seldom help. Therefore, I came up with this "OC Exercise" to help you get to know your characters better. The best part is, it will even get you some writing practice!

This group's goal is to create a place where writers of all types can submit their work for critique, feedback, support, or just to get their pieces read. All pieces from poetry to prose, beginner to pro- as well as any concept art related to the deviant's writing- will be accepted here as long as they follow the dA rules.
Also- I hope to build a network within this group of any members willing to read a piece in this group and give their opinions if contacted. I will most likely list those willing in different sections somewhere on the main page.

I posted a critique for [link] I didn't know if anyone had done so yet, but I took the liberty of doing so. Imo, it was a decent free verse poem, though I detest free verse haha. It is difficult to judge it based upon sentence length and rhyme scheme, so I settled for the imagery. I hope I did a decent enough job.
